As stated at the November Society meeting in Hackensack and at the holiday party, it has been my pleasure to serve the organization for the last four years as President-elect and then President. I encourage all of you to warmly welcome Donna Terzano as incoming President, Jeffrey O’Neil as incoming President-elect, and Junior Martinez as Sargent at Arms in the success of the Society.
I must admit that I was absolutely unprepared and generally humbled by the applause/ovation received at the November regular meeting when I announced my exit as President. I graciously accept the society’s appreciation and owe a debt of gratitude to those who supported me through the experience. The board members, committees, and other volunteers have definitely shaped any success. Unfortunately, I do believe that I missed an opportunity that night to acknowledge the efforts of the team at that point in November’s meeting. It must have been the 50/50 drawing.
I could not have been effective without Lyndsay Schnell- Lusardi and Mike De Padova keeping me in line on the rules and general practices. The input of Bill Kelly, Tricia Romano, Caroline Polhemus, as well as the wisdom of Bill Anderson was and continues to be greatly appreciated. The steady diligent work of Diana Barsoum and Bob Morrison of the membership committee is invaluable. And last but certainly not least the incredible efforts provided by Cindi Vasta in support of much more than her role as Treasurer are truly acknowledged and appreciated.
Also much appreciated for their voluntary contributions are Victor Arencibia, Jesse Gandi, Matthew Van Wyck, Denise Schmidt, Janna Cohen, and Remika Sharma who have made many HFMSNJ events a success.
And then there is Frank Keller who selflessly gives back to the community with his distribution of necessities to the homeless and less fortunate. Please continue to support him. I have many fond memories of the Habitat for Humanity adventures with him.
The loyalty of the healthcare members, professional members, and business partners is to be commended. Thank you all. Please continue to support the society and its succession.
The networking, collaboration, and educational opportunities presented at the monthly meetings and all-day events is immeasurable to the mission of the society.
I truly feel at ease knowing that I have been educated as well as my facilities staff in all things healthcare facilities management through the mission of ASHE chapters. Although no one looks forward to a hospital experience, I am confident that those who experience a stay at one of our hospitals will be protected by our knowledge of best practices and regulatory excellence.
There have been many incremental changes needed to bring HFMSNJ membership back from the days of COVID and I believe we are on the way. The society depends on all of you for its succession. Again, thank you for your support over the las four years. I intend to stay on as a junior trustee and the AV guy.
Let’s make 2025 a banner year for onboarding new members and quality educational programs. I hope you and your families have a wonderful holiday season.
Sincerely,
Tom Sparling
President HFMSNJ 2023/2024
