Starting with FGI Guidelines-2018, new classification structure for imaging rooms was provided based on procedures performed and environmental controls needed to allow flexibility in imaging room requirements as procedures and equipment change over time. Our presentation will focus on the changes to operating room/procedure room classifications between 2014, 2018 and the latest 2022 FGI guidelines and the MEP design considerations associated with these classifications.
CEC Learning Objectives
- How did operating and procedure room design evolve from architectural and MEP standpoint from 2014 to 2018 and 2022 FGI guidelines.
- Importance of determining the classification of the room from the end users very early in the design process.
- Integration and adaptation of imaging equipment in operating rooms and the impact of that on the design.
- The need for thorough coordination between all stakeholders like the end users architects, engineers, contractors etc. to make a complex and vital project like an operating room design successful.
